A. General Requirements for All Scholarships
- All applications must be submitted to the Chair prior to the date specified.
- Applicants must be declared chemistry majors.
- Applicants must have completed at least one chemistry course at SWOSU with a B or higher grade in that course.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA in the prior semester is required for renewal of scholarships. Special circumstances may be appealed to the Chemistry Department Scholarship Committee.
- A Department Application must be completed to ensure eligibility.
- A Foundation Application must also be completed. The SWOSU Foundation awards many scholarships and awards to deserving students each year. Allen G. Lane Scholarship (Sponsored by Dr. Allen Lane)
Awarded to Chemistry Majors who have completed at least one Organic Chemistry course at SWOSU
Awarded to Chemistry Majors who have demonstrated outstanding resiliency and improvement throughout the Organic Chemistry course sequence
Castleberry Scholarship (Sponsored by Dr. G.E. and Sue Castleberry)
Limited to Chemistry majors enrolling in CHEM 3015 Organic Chemistry I for majors in Fall
Must take the General Chemistry Award Exam
Cronin Scholarship (Sponsored by the Chemistry Club)
Limited to current Sophomore and Junior Chemistry majors
Donald Hamm Memorial Scholarship (Sponsored by friends of Dr. Donald and Jean Hamm)
Must be regularly enrolled Chemistry major with at least a 3.00 GPA
Donald and Glenna Hertzler Scholarship (Sponsored by friends of Dr. Donald and Glenna Hertzler)
Must be regularly enrolled Chemistry major with at least a 3.00 GPA
Harold White Scholarship (Sponsored by friends of Dr. Harold White)
Awarded to outstanding Chemistry Major within the Majors Organic Chemistry course
Neparko Family Scholarship (Sponsored by Dr. Edward Neparko and family)
Limited to Chemistry majors beginning their sophomore year with a 3.25 or higher GPA
Nicholas and Judy Rains Scholarship (Sponsored by alumni Nicholas Rains and family)
Must have demonstrated need and merit, and a GPA of at least 3.00
Osborne Scholarship (Sponsored by the family of alumni Edith Osborne)
Limited to Chemistry Majors who have excelled academically, are members of the Chemistry Club. Preference given to NON-residents of the state of Oklahoma.
Rolan V. Decker Outstanding Biochemistry Student Award (Sponsored by friends & family of Dr. Decker)
Awarded to outstanding Chemistry Major who has completed within the same academic year both Biochemistry and Advanced Metabolism
Sonobe Family Scholarship (Sponsored by the Sonobe family)
Limited to Chemistry Majors with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Preference given to Oklahoma residents
*May not be given every year; may rotate between other departments
Stuart Burchett Analytical Chemistry Scholarship
Awarded each year to the outstanding chemistry major just completing Quantitative Analysis
SWOSU Alumni Scholarship (Sponsored by Chemistry Alumni)
Limited to Chemistry Majors
Madge Lenz Jordan Scholarship (Awarded at Foundation Level)
The Madge Lenz Jordan Scholarship Fund was established to benefit deserving students, with one award guaranteed to a student studying in the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
This is a generous scholarship of $6,000 that may be used for tuition and books reimbursement that will be awarded to full-time students with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Bobby Gunter Freshman Chemistry Award
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Enrolled in Gen Chem II and performed best on an ACS standardized exam
Harold M White Organic Chemistry Award
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Selected from Organic Chemistry II major’s section by the corresponding instructor (may be based on ACS exam)
ACS Senior Award in Organic Chemistry
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Organic Chemistry II student (majors or non-majors section) scoring highest on a standardized exam
ACS Senior Award in Polymer Chemistry
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Outstanding classwork and/or research in Polymer Chemistry
ACS Senior Award in Inorganic Chemistry
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Outstanding classwork and/or research in Inorganic Chemistry
ACS Senior Award in Analytical Chemistry
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Outstanding classwork and/or research in Analytical Chemistry
Stuart Burchett Analytical Chemistry Award
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Awarded in alternate years to the outstanding student completing both Quantitative Analysis and Instrumental Analysis
Dan Dill Inorganic Chemistry Award
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Outstanding performer in Inorganic Chemistry, as judged by the corresponding instructor
Rolan V. Decker Outstanding Biochemistry Student Award
Award: $250 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Awarded annually to an outstanding student completing both Biochemistry and Advanced Metabolism and earning the highest cumulative grade within the Advanced Metabolism course of the same year
Ed Neparko Senior Chemist Award
Award: $250 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Awarded annually to an outstanding student completing Physical Chemistry
Department Chair’s Award
Award: $100 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Awarded annually to a Chemistry major for outstanding contributions to the department
Undergraduate Research Award
Award: $200 cash award and framed certificate
Criteria: Awarded annually to Chemistry Majors completing research credit courses (CHEM 4001-4) with outstanding research work and communication of those results
