Physics Scholarships and Awards

Available Scholarships 

Benny J. Hill Scholarship (Sponsored by Mrs. Hill and Physics alumni) 
  • This fund was established to benefit deserving students pursuing a major in Engineering Physics at SWOSU. At least one scholarship will be awarded each year.
  • This award honors Dr. Benny J. Hill, who served as the chair of the department for 25 years. This fund was established by Mrs. Benny Hill and other SWOSU Physics alumni.

J.R. Pratt Award (Sponsored by the Physics Club) 
  • An award is given each year to an outstanding Engineering Physics student as determined by scholastic averages in physics and related subjects, as well as leadership development.

J.R. Pratt Physics Scholarship (Sponsored by alumni, faculty, and emeriti) 
  • A fund established by alumni, faculty, and faculty emeriti to provide financial assistance for students pursuing a major in Engineering Physics. The fund was established in memory of J. R. Pratt, the original chair of the department.

McClelland Physics Scholarship (Sponsored by George R. Pearson) 
  • This fund is based on scholastic achievement and provides scholarship assistance for students pursuing a major in Engineering Physics.
  • The fund was established by George R. Pearson in memory of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. McClelland.

Ray C. Jones Scholarship (Sponsored by friends and family of Dr. Ray C. Jones)
  • This scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding Engineering Physics student. This award honors Dr. Ray C. Jones who taught at SWOSU for 32 years and was a perennial favorite among students.
  • Funds are provided by generous donations from Dr. Jones’ family, students, and colleagues who wish to continue supporting the study of physics that he loved.

Outstanding Midclassman in Physics Award (Sponsored by the Physics Club)
  • This annual award is presented to an outstanding Engineering Physics student who has completed General Physics I and II. The award is based on scholastic averages, involvement in physics activities, and leadership potential. This award is sponsored by the Physics and Engineering Club.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University Physics Alumni Scholarships 
  • These scholarships for outstanding Engineering Physics majors are based on need and scholastic achievement.
